Corps to Operate Bonnet Carre’ Spillway

Heavy rain in the Mississippi Valley and rising Mississippi River water stages and flow are prompting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to open the Bonnet Carré Spillway Friday, April 3, to keep the volume of Mississippi River flows at New Orleans from exceeding 1.25 million cubic feet per second (cfs). COVID-19: In accordance with the state and federal guidelines in response to COVID-19 this event will not be open to the public.

Vicksburg District to keep boat ramps, nature trails open at north Mississippi lakes, but other district recreation areas remain closed

Mississippi River Commission high-water inspection trip and public hearings canceled

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mississippi River Commission (MRC) has canceled its annual high-water inspection trip and public hearings on board the MV Mississippi, which was scheduled for March 29 – April 3, 2020. The health and safety for people is a priority during this critical time in our nation. In order to allow public testimony to still be received by the commission, individual districts will solicit testimony to be filed for the record from stakeholders with an opening date for submission of March 23, 2020, and closing on April 3, 2020.  Additional instructions will be provided with the solicitation.

Mississippi Valley Division taking precautions against COVID-19

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mississippi Valley Division (MVD) and its six districts, St. Paul; Rock Island; St. Louis; Memphis; Vicksburg; and New Orleans, are implementing protective measures to help keep people safe during this critical time in our nation. Mat Sinking Unit suspends 2019 revetment season

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Mat Sinking Unit suspended its 2019 revetment season Jan. 21. The season was suspended due to adverse river conditions caused by flooded riverbanks and high velocity flows. The unit will remain on standby for approximately one month as district engineers and technical experts monitor river conditions for the opportunity to complete scheduled work. If conditions are favorable, the unit will potentially resume work in late February.
