    June 27, 2016 -- VICKSBURG,MISS. -- The Mississippi Valley Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, held its annual awards ceremony today where the following awards were presented:

  • WASHINGTON - Army Corps of Engineers announces proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it has prepared its proposal to renew and revise 50 nationwide permits for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. In addition, USACE will propose to issue two new nationwide permits that pertain to authorizing the removal of low-head dams and the construction and maintenance of living shorelines.

  • Mississippi River Commission schedules high-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River April 11-15, 2016.

  • WASHINGTON - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Releases Work Plan for Fiscal Year 2016 Civil Works Appropriations

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) yesterday delivered to Congress its Fiscal Year 2016 (FY 2016) work plan for the Army Civil Works program.

  • President Obama appoints Hill as Mississippi River Commission member

    President Barack Obama recently appointed Brigadier General David C. Hill as member of the Mississippi River Commission. MRC appointments are nominated by the President of the United States and vetted by the U.S. Senate.

  • Mississippi River and Tributaries System efficiently passing flood crest, operation of Morganza Floodway is not required

    Based on current Mississippi River forecasts by the National Weather Service and hydraulic modeling, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers does not anticipate operating the Morganza Control Structure during this high-water event.

  • Corps continues to fight Mississippi River flooding, crest moving south from Cairo

    Almost 300 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel from throughout the Mississippi Valley Division are continuing to combat flooding from high Mississippi River levels as the river crested January 3 at 56 feet on the Cairo gage. Public safety is the Corps number one priority, and as record-breaking river levels recede on the upper Mississippi and its tributaries, flood fighters remain vigilant around the clock to rapidly respond to trouble spots.

  • Major flooding threatens Mississippi River Valley, Army Corps flood fighters fully engaged

    The Mississippi Valley Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, fully activated its flood fighting emergency management operations for the Rock Island, St. Louis, Memphis, Vicksburg and New Orleans districts to manage rapidly rising water levels on the Mississippi River and several tributaries, with the highest Mississippi River levels since the Great Flood of 2011.

  • Mississippi River Basin Receives D+ in First-Ever Report Card

    Leaders representing organizations from more than 20 states gathered in St. Louis on Oct. 14 to announce the release of a first-ever Report Card for the entire Mississippi River basin, which stretches across all or part of 31 U.S. states and covers more than 41 percent of the continental United States. The leaders were part of America’s Watershed Initiative, which has worked with more than 700 stakeholders and experts from over 400 business, government and science organizations to identify the key measurements and data sources to grade six goals for the watershed: clean, abundant water; marine transportation; flood control and risk reduction; the economy; recreation; and ecosystem health.

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 26

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 26.
