• Mississippi Valley Division gets new Deputy Commander

    Lieutenant Colonel (Promotable) Torrey A. DiCiro assumed the duties of deputy commander for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mississippi Valley Division, Vicksburg, Miss., on July 9, 2014. He also serves as secretary of the Mississippi River Commission.
  • Mississippi Valley Division gets ready for 2014 Hurricane Season

    Hurricanes happen about 40 to 50 times worldwide each year and this year’s North and Central American season started June 1. History shows that a lack of hurricane awareness and preparation are common threads among all major hurricane disasters. This year, the Mississippi Valley Division will conduct an interagency hurricane rehearsal to practice its response and recovery activities should a hurricane strike Louisiana and/or Mississippi.

  • Kem appointed to Mississippi River Commission

    Brigadier General John S. Kem has been appointed by President Obama to serve on the Mississippi River Commission. Brig. Gen. Kem serves as the commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division, a position he has held since July 2013.
  • Mississippi River Commission schedules high-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River April 7-11, 2014. Four public meetings have been scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river so commission members have the opportunity to meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues.

  • FEMA Accredits Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS)

    Yesterday, the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) accredited the greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS). The federal levee system will be represented on the new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) as reducing risk within Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard, St. Charles and Plaquemines parishes.
  • Moore selected as new MVD chief of Real Estate Division and lead for Upper Mississippi District Support Team

    Mark Moore was selected as the Mississippi Valley Division’s (MVD) Regional Chief of Real Estate and Lead for the District Support Team (Upper Mississippi) for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His job duties include serving as the regional expert for Real Estate issues, and he is responsible for managing civil works projects for MVD’s three northern districts; St. Louis, Rock Island, and St. Paul.

    Mr. Michael A. Turner was recently selected as deputy director of the Regional Business Directorate and chief of the Business Technical Division for the Mississippi Valley Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
