    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, April 8-12, 2024.

    Army Corps of Engineers announces end of low-water drought in Mississippi Valley Division

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mississippi Valley Division announced today the drought that plagued the Mississippi River basin since 2022 is officially over. Low water conditions began in the region in September 2022.

    Mississippi Valley Division announces conclusion of hurricane preparedness efforts

    Today marks the last official day of the 2023 hurricane season, which runs each year from June 1 through Nov. 30. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicted an above-average season with a forecast of 14 to 21 named storms. There were no named storms impacting the MVD region.

    Kimberly A . Peeples assumes command of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi Valley Division

    Brig. Gen. Kimberly A. Peeples has taken command of the Mississippi Valley Division (MVD) during a ceremony in Vicksburg. Major General William (Butch) Graham, the Deputy Chief of Engineers and Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presided over the event. Peeples assumed command from Maj. Gen. Diana Holland who will retire after 33 years of service.

    Change of Command scheduled for Mississippi Valley Division

    Major General Diana M. Holland will transfer command of the Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), to Brigadier General Kimberly Peeples in a formal change of command ceremony July 12, at 10 a.m. at Engineer Research and Development Center’s, (ERDC) Information Technology Lab (ITL), located 1165 Porters Chapel Road (Building 8000) Vicksburg.

    The Mississippi Valley Division U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) coordinates all flood fight activities in the Mississippi Valley. Currently, the Memphis, and New Orleans Districts have begun Phase I flood fight activities.

    Mississippi River Commission prepares for low-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual low-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, Aug. 22 – 26, 2022. Four public meetings are scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river. Commission members will meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues. The meeting dates, times and locations are as follows: • August 22 9:00 a.m. -- 12:00 p.m. Tiptonville, Tenn. (Riverside Park) • August 23 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Memphis, Tenn. (Beale Street Landing) • August 24 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Vicksburg, Miss. (City Front) • August 26 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Morgan City, La. (Port Commission Dock)
