The Blessing of the Fleet
The Vicksburg District (MVK) hosted the third annual Blessing of the Fleet ceremony in August. The event stems from a tradition dating back to medieval times. It began in early European fishing communities. A blessing bestowed by a local priest called for an abundant and safe season. The Vicksburg District, conducted the Blessing of the Fleet ceremony prior to the Mat sinking unit, dredges and other floating plants departure for the 2016 revetment and dredging season.
