  • Mississippi River Commission prepares for low-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual low-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, Aug. 22 – 26, 2022. Four public meetings are scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river. Commission members will meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues. The meeting dates, times and locations are as follows: • August 22 9:00 a.m. -- 12:00 p.m. Tiptonville, Tenn. (Riverside Park) • August 23 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Memphis, Tenn.     The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released its updated Mississippi River Pool 6 draft dredged material management plan and Environmental Assessment, or EA, today, June 14.
  • Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on Lock and Dam 4 project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released a draft Environmental Assessment, or EA, for a proposed end cell project at Lock and Dam 4, near Alma, Wisconsin, today, May 9, and is seeking public comments. Comments should be submitted no later than Jun 9.
  • FREE Boating Safety Classes to be Offered

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will be offering two, free boating safety education classes, May 7 and 14 at the Mississippi River Project Office near Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Each class runs from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is open to anyone 12 years of age or older. Completion of only one of these classes is needed for certification.
  • Corps continues to monitor its Mississippi River Headwaters reservoirs

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, continues to monitor water levels at its Mississippi River Headwaters reservoirs. The water levels in the reservoirs, except for Pokegama Lake, are below the summer target level, which is the level maintained for water supply, environmental and recreational benefits. All reservoirs are releasing the minimum flow. The Corps urges boaters to go slow and use caution in lower-than-normal lakes levels.
  • Corps announces temporary closure at Hastings lock and dam to replace nearly 80-year-old gates

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will have four temporary closure periods at Lock and Dam 2 in Hastings, Minnesota, from July 20-29, to replace the lock chamber’s miter gates.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District held a “Blessing of the Fleet” ceremony July 12 to commemorate the deployment of the district’s Mat Sinking Unit and the official start of revetment season.
  • Corps awards contract for Pigs Eye Lake habitat restoration project

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, in partnership with Minnesota’s Ramsey County awarded a $14.7 million contract to LS Marine, Inc., of St. Paul, Minnesota, June 25, to restore habitat on Pigs Eye Lake, located in upper Pool 2 of the Mississippi River.
