  • John Hay Recreation Area closing temporarily

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, is temporarily closing the John Hay Recreation Area in East Hannibal, Illinois, to public access starting July 6. The closure, which is anticipated to last until September 15, is needed to facilitate ongoing wing dam repairs in Pool 22. No public river access or day use will be available during the closure as maintenance crews will be using the area to stage large amounts of rock and load it onto barges for placement in the river.
  • Corps awards contract for Pigs Eye Lake habitat restoration project

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, in partnership with Minnesota’s Ramsey County awarded a $14.7 million contract to LS Marine, Inc., of St. Paul, Minnesota, June 25, to restore habitat on Pigs Eye Lake, located in upper Pool 2 of the Mississippi River.
  • Corps of Engineers and Red Lake Band partner on habitat restoration study

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently signed a cost sharing agreement with the Red Lake Band to study the feasibility of constructing a fish passage in Red Lake and restoring adjacent habitat in the Zah Gheeng marsh in Clearwater County, Minnesota.
  • St. Tammany Feasibility Study Draft Report virtual public meetings scheduled

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District has scheduled two virtual public meetings to gather input regarding the St. Tammany Parish Feasibility Study with Integrated Environmental Impact Statement. The goal of the study is to develop alternatives to reduce flood damages caused by hurricane and rainfall events. The meetings will be held via WebEx and simultaneously streamed on the district’s Facebook page on June 28 and 29, 2021.

  • USACE Vicksburg District temporarily closes Jonesville Park Landing

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will temporarily close Jonesville Park Landing in Jonesville, Louisiana, from 6 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021, to 7 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2021. Alternative locations to Jonesville Park Landing for recreating and boating during the time of temporary closure are Little River, Harrisonburg Recreation Area and Clayton Landing.
  • USACE Vicksburg District temporarily closes north Mississippi lake recreation areas due to high water

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has temporarily closed recreation areas at its four lakes in north Mississippi – Grenada, Enid, Sardis, and Arkabutla – due to high water from recent rainfall.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center at Starved Rock Lock and Dam in Ottawa, Illinois, has reopened to the public. Operating hours are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week.
  • USACE, USDA-ARS host ribbon cutting for pilot groundwater project

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS); U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mississippi Valley Division; and USACE Vicksburg District hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for a pilot Groundwater Transfer and Injection Project near Shellmound, Mississippi, June 8.
